This morning, while walking in the heavy wind, I heard one phrase whispered deep in my spirit:
“The Author.”
I didn’t ask for a revelation. I didn’t sit down expecting a word. But there it was—clear, strong, and unshakable. The Author.
And I knew immediately who He was talking about: God.
The wind was loud. It wrapped itself around me like a moving sermon. And as it pressed against my body, I thought about the stories we’re all living—the stories we often question, resist, or don’t fully understand.
Stories that don’t always make sense…
Yet they are being written with precision by the One who sees the end from the beginning.
The Writer of My Life
When I think of an author, I think of someone who crafts every detail. The way a character walks. The way a scene opens. The tension, the timing, the turning points.
And I realized… God is doing the same with me.
He’s not just the Author in title—He’s an Author in intention.
There are moments in my life that have felt chaotic, like scribbled notes on a messy page. Pages where I asked, “God, why this chapter?” or “Why did You let that happen?”
But if I’m honest, those were the exact chapters that shaped me. Those were the pages that made the story rich.
He Writes Differently Than We Expect
God doesn’t write like we do. He doesn’t rush to the good part or skip over the pain. No, He writes with eternity in mind.
- We want straight lines. He gives us curves.
- We want speed. He gives us a process.
- We want comfort. He gives us character.
And in the moment, it doesn’t always feel good.
But when I look back, I realize that every delay, every storm, every no, every closed door—it all served the plot.
Just like this morning, I wasn’t expecting that word. I wasn’t expecting the wind to be so aggressive. But I see it now: God was drawing my attention not to what I was going through… but to who was writing the story.
The Chapters We Would Skip
If I had control of the pen, I would’ve skipped the years I felt lost. I would’ve edited out the heartbreaks. I would’ve deleted the disappointments. I would’ve fast-forwarded through the fear, the delay, the uncertainty.
But then what would I have?
A shallow story.
No depth. No testimony. No grit.
Some of our greatest chapters are the ones we hated the most—because they revealed who God is. Not the God of theory, but the God who shows up when the ink runs dry and we don’t know what’s coming next.
A Personal Page-Turner
There were times when I wondered if I would ever reach this point. I remember being told I’d go to college when I didn’t even have the subjects to apply. And for years, I walked around with that word, but no evidence.
Then came the instructions—step by step.
One CXC.
Then another.
Then the application.
Then the admission.
Then the degree.
Then another.
And another.
Now, here I am—a graduate with not just a bachelor’s degree, but an entire testimony inked by the Holy Spirit. Every delay had a purpose. Every “not yet” was a comma, not a period.
God Isn’t Just Writing—He’s Weaving
There’s a difference between writing and weaving.
Writing is about words. Weaving is about layers.
God weaves. He takes:
- The brokenness of your past
- The silent prayers in your midnight hours
- The hidden talents you buried under fear
- The relationships that didn’t last
- The storms that tried to silence you
…and He turns them into something beautiful.
You may not see it yet. But He does.
He sees how this current page is setting up the next plot twist.
He knows how your silent suffering is building someone else’s healing.
He knows that your pain is not wasted—it’s woven.
5 Reminders from The Author
1. You are not a rough draft.
God’s pen is not shaking. You are not a mistake being edited. You are intentional, page after page.
2. You don’t have to understand the chapter to trust the Author.
Some pages only make sense in hindsight. Keep reading. Keep walking.
3. The most silent chapters are often the most sacred.
When God seems quiet, He’s writing something deeper. Don’t mistake silence for absence.
4. Your story isn’t over.
If you’re still breathing, God is still writing. He never leaves a sentence unfinished.
5. What doesn’t make sense today will be someone else’s breakthrough tomorrow.
The chapter you’re surviving now will set someone else free. Stay in it.
You’re Not Just a Character. You’re His Creation.
I think the most powerful thing about calling God “The Author” is realizing that I’m not just a character in a story—I’m His daughter.
I’m known.
I’m seen.
And even when I want to grab the pen and write my outcome, He gently reminds me:
“Let Me write this. I know how it ends.”
A Prayer for Those Struggling to Trust the Process
Lord,
Sometimes I don’t understand the chapter I’m in. Sometimes it feels like you’re silent, or like you’ve turned the page and forgotten me.
But I trust you.
I trust your timing. I trust your pen. I trust that you’re weaving something I can’t see yet.
Make me patient when I want to run. Make me faithful when I want to quit.
You are The Author.
Write your story through me.
Amen.
