This morning, as warm water danced across my skin and the rest of the world fell away for a moment, I found myself thinking deeply about one word: stillness.
What if I could shut out the noise—the endless scroll, the to-dos, the what-ifs, and the why-me’s—and just be? What if I could lean into the quiet, not to escape, but to hear God more clearly? To hear me more clearly?
We live in a time when noise is the norm. Notifications. Opinions. Pressure to keep up. Even in silence, the mind can feel loud. But somewhere in the middle of the rinse and repeat, I heard that still, small voice say, “Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10, KJV)
That verse isn’t just a feel-good quote. It’s a divine invitation—to pause, to breathe, to listen.
The Beauty of Stillness
Stillness isn’t laziness. It’s not doing nothing. It’s choosing to be present. It’s saying: “Right now, I’m not trying to fix anything. I’m just receiving.”
When you’re still:
- You make room for divine downloads.
- You recognize what thoughts are actually yours and not just influenced.
- You become aware of what your soul has been trying to say.
Real Talk: The Struggle to Be Still
I’m a mom. I’m a businesswoman. I’m a writer, a creative, a cook, a cleaner, a comforter. Being still doesn’t come naturally to me. There are days when my mind is sprinting from one demand to the next before I even finish my tea.
But this morning reminded me: Stillness is not a luxury. It’s a lifeline.
Even Jesus stepped away from the crowds. He withdrew to quiet places to pray, to listen, to rest (Luke 5:16). If the Son of God needed stillness, who am I to think I can thrive without it?
5 Tips for Creating a Daily Stillness Practice
- Start small. Just 5 minutes of quiet can reset your whole mood.
- Silence the phone. Put it on airplane mode. The world can wait.
- Find your still spot. Maybe it’s your shower, your balcony, or under that one tree that always feels like peace.
- Pair it with scripture. Meditate on a verse. Start with Psalm 46:10.
- Journal what you hear. Even if it feels like random thoughts—write it. Often, the Holy Spirit speaks in whispers.
Let Stillness Be Your Superpower
Sis, if you’re anything like me, you feel pulled in a dozen directions. You feel the pressure to perform, show up, and give, give, give.
But here’s the reminder we both need:
You are not your productivity. You are not your likes or comments. You are not the mess of yesterday. You are His. And sometimes, all He wants you to do is be still so He can remind you of who you truly are.
Let the shower be your sanctuary. Let the early mornings become meetings with the Most High. Let silence be your space of strength.
Scripture Meditation
“Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” — Psalm 46:10 (KJV)
Final Encouragement
If you take nothing else from this blog today, take this: God isn’t asking you to hustle harder. He’s asking you to sit with Him. And in the stillness, He will show you the next step.
So before the noise takes over again—pause. Breathe. Listen. Be still.
And if you need a reminder tomorrow? Come back here. I’ll be walking this journey with you.
With love and grace,
